Zakat is the compulsory giving of a set proportion of one’s wealth to charity. It is regarded as a type of worship and of self-purification. Zakat is the third Pillar of Islam. About Zakat As the third pillar of Islam, Zakat is an obligatory share of wealth ordained by God to be redistributed among Muslims. It also allows us to be conscious of the plight of others and develop a deeper concern for our fellow men. There are two forms of Zakat: Zakat Fitrah and Zakat on wealth.
“And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah.”
(2:110, Qur’an)
With the literal meaning of the word being ‘to cleanse’, Muslims believe that paying zakat purifies, increases and blesses the remainder of their wealth. Zakat is 2.5% of wealth that has been in one’s possession for a lunar year. If wealth amounts to less than a threshold figure, termed the nisab, then no zakat is payable. If wealth amounts to more than the nisab, zakat becomes obligatory.

There are multiple needs of the poor among which the medical treatment is also an important need. The cost of providing the medical services can be met from Zakat imposed by the Almighty Allah from the rich for the benefit of the poor in line with the teachings of Islam.
It is harder for people living in poverty to get the health care. Zakat can be used for the medical treatment of the poor, including purchase of medicines and other operational costs. The importance of medical treatment for saving a person’s life is well known. We seeks to provide health service to the public.
Hunger is one of the biggest problems that we as a global community face. Every day too many men and women across the globe struggle to feed their children a nutritious meal. In a world where we produce enough food to feed everyone, 800 million people or one in nine still go to bed on an empty stomach each night. Food has become scarce as well as being too expensive for the poor. We believe no one should have to live with hunger and the damage it does. That is why we are working for a world in which no one dies for want of safe, quality, nutritious food. Feeding people in general and a hungry person in particular has been explicitly mentioned in the command of the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ).
Hunger is not an incurable disease or an unavoidable tragedy. We can make sure no child goes without food. We can stop mothers from starving themselves to feed their families. We can save lives. Every day, Muslim Global Relief and its partners work to bring us closer to a zero hunger world. Meanwhile our complementary programmers address the root causes of hunger, building the resilience of communities, empowering them with the tools to lift themselves out of poverty, distributing food aid to victims of war and famine, providing communities with the education they need to feed themselves over the long-term.
